History
Saint Dominic’s Fair has a long and rich history dating back to 1260 when Pope Alexander IV granted the Dominican friars in Gdańsk the right to organize a fair in honor of Saint Dominic. Over the centuries, the fair has evolved and grown, surviving wars and changes in political regimes, to become the vibrant and dynamic event it is today.
The Event
The fair typically lasts for three weeks, usually from late July to mid-August. It takes place in the streets of Gdańsk’s Main Town, turning the city center into a bustling marketplace filled with hundreds of stalls. Here, traders and artisans from Poland and beyond sell a wide variety of goods, from antiques, arts, and crafts to books, food, and drinks.
